November 2oth Meeting
Members chose 2 learning zones of 1 hour duration from the following:
Theta Healing,
Adrenal Fatigue
Thyroid and Nutrition or Indian Head Massage Techniques share
Hot Stone Reflexology
Learning zones aim to give members a taster into other therapies and/or an update into a particular illness or problem. This is then part of our continued professional development as our knowledge broadens and is refreshed.
We had 50+ members in attendance and thanks to everyone for their helpful feedback.
September 25th Meeting
This was an informal meeting with some guided discussion in groups to give an overview of how we are all carrying out our businesses, what we charge, what we enjoy and what we find challenging about being a reflexologist. Existing therapists offered their “words of wisdom” to the newer therapists amongst us too. The members then looked as ways of describing medical conditions to comply with the new advertising standards requirements that we do not include such terminology in our brochures/websites etc.
Members were also shown 3 short presentations to point them in the right direction for:
-
obtaining Trading Standards licences for practice within their own therapy rooms to comply with legislation from Essex County Council.
-
registering with HMRC when working as a sole trader (even if not earning enough at present to pay tax)
-
obtaining a voluntary CRB disclosure with the Due Diligence Checking group using Complementary Therapists Association as the requesting body.
September 13th Meeting – New Tuesday One-Off Extra evening meeting
28 members and 2 guests attended the meeting in the Billericay Reading Rooms. Janet Brindley gave a presentation which included some have a go techniques on Buteyko Breathing. She had prepared handouts from her presentation for members to write information against and we were given lots of tips that we can pass on to our clients/families and friends and use ourselves.
It was interesting to hear that Buteyko is not only useful for people who have asthma but it also has proven useful in COPD and anxiety/panic attack situations too. We learned how the mechanism of breathing and the response to breathlessness/asthma can be consciously controlled by a regime of re-learning how to breathe properly.
Janet’s presentation included some film of one of her young clients giving his own story of how Buteyko has improved his life and he demonstrated some more techniques he uses.
